Hina Baloch is the executive director of climate change communications and strategy at General Motors. Prior to this, she held senior positions at GM, including leading research and data analytics; diversity, equity, and inclusion; STEM education; and corporate social responsibility strategy. Previously, Baloch worked in bilateral trade and diplomacy with the British government, focusing on central and south Asian countries. She has also worked as a researcher with Brookings Institute and Results for Development in Washington DC. Baloch is a recipient of a UNESCO fellowship at University of Pennsylvania and a Fulbright-Hubert H. Humphrey fellowship at Penn State University. She is a board member of Michigan Energy Council, AI4All, and Smithsonian Science Center. Baloch’s recognition includes being named to PR Week’s Dashboard 25 as one of the most influential people in communications, data, and technology.

Panelists:

Hadassah GreenSky is a Waganakising Odawa (Little Traverse Bay Bands) from Detroit, Michigan. She is an activist, community organizer, curator, cultural worker, indigenous futurist working as a visual artist, jazz singer, musician, dancer (both modern and powwow), bead artist, seamstress, graphic designer, photographer, videographer and model. She was previously featured in Vogue for a photo taken of her and her relatives atop the base of the empty Columbus statue in Detroit. In Detroit, she co-founded a music festival called Vibes With The Tribes and a market she founded called The Waawiyaatanong NDN Market, both aimed at serving and uplifting Native artists. In 2021, she began developing a documentary called The Red Ghetto project, a story about the Native neighborhood of Detroit from the 1940-1970s. She recently began developing a project expanding on the market called The Epangishmok Exchange, a Native artist exchange between The Great Lakes and Northern California. Currently she is collaborating under SNAG magazine as a field reporter and journalist. She splits her time between California and Michigan to better learn and grow in her vision of starting a communal trade network and sustainable community artist hub. She has written for The Nation, been featured in the MetroTimes, Riverwise Magazine, Planet Detroit, Record Eagle, and featured on CBS News. She is also a 2022 Kresge Fellow. 

Bana Kabalan (she/they) {pending - please do not share; waiting on full bio} is an interdisciplinary Lebanese-American visual performative artist who is currently a PhD student in aquatic ecology

Cherise Morris is an award-winning poet, multidisciplinary artist, ritualist and spiritual worker born and raised in rural Virginia. Her multidisciplinary performance work and writing has been supported by a host of regional and national organizations, including Red Bull Arts, Allied Media Projects, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit among others and has received funding from the Foundation for Contemporary Art, Poets & Writers, and PEN America. Merging experimental writing, poetry and prayer with performance, movement, sound and ritual practices, Morris’ writing and performance work opens loving, audacious and transformative spaces that invite communities to explore, imagine and continue the infinite work of  individual healing and collective transformation. Her writing has previously appeared in The Iowa Review, Longreads, Black Warrior Review and elsewhere. Her essays have twice been recognized as notable works of literary nonfiction in The Best American Essays Series 2018 and 2019 and have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She is a 2019 Kresge Fellow. Morris is currently at work on her ongoing project, "Visions of the Evolution: The Ritual-Performance Series," and her debut manuscript. 

Annabel Rabiyah is the cofounder of Awafi Kitchen, an Iraqi Jewish cultural food initiative. Through sharing recipes and making meals, Awafi pays tribute to a lesser known culinary heritage. In addition to their social media presence, Awafi Kitchen hosts pop-up restaurant events, virtual cooking demos, and presentations on Iraqi-Jewish history. Annabel also founded the Iraqi Seed Collective, a group of Iraqi heritage people and seed growers which is devoted to preserving the genetic legacy of Iraqi crops through saving heirloom seeds and creating an Iraqi seed library.
