Q: Where does Concert of Colors happen?

A: Multiple locations with most of the stages at the Detroit Institute of Arts. 

This year for one of the festival’s 5 days, on Friday July 18, the Concert of Colors returns to the Aretha Franklin Amphitheater. Throughout the week, all other performances take place in Midtown’s Cultural district with multiple stages on the lawns of the Detroit Institute of Arts and inside the DIA at the Detroit Film Theatre; at The Michigan Historical Society/Detroit Historical Museum; Michigan Science Center, Scarab Club, Third Man Records, Spot Lite Detroit and College for Creative Studies.

Q: Is Concert of Colors a free event?

A: YES! Concert of Colors is now celebrating its 34th anniversary as a free event. Donations are acceptable to keep the schedule free for all – by donating through www.concertofcolors.com

Q: Are all performances outdoors on the lawn?

A: There will be stages on the DIA North and South Lawns, but also inside the Detroit Film Theatre and neighboring institutions.

Q: Can I bring chairs to the outdoor stages at the DIA?  

A: Yes! Bring a chair, a blanket, a cooler!  

Q: Will I need a ticket for Concert of Colors?

A: Tickets are not required. For 2025, the only performance where reservations are recommended are at Third Man Records for the Beautiful Noise performance: https://tinyurl.com/ydwd26uy   

Q: Do I need reservations for the Don Was Detroit All Star Revue performance?

NO! NO reservations are needed. First come, first serve. 

Q: How will I find my way around to all the outdoor stages?

A: There will be information tents along John R, Farnsworth and Kirby Streets around the Detroit Institute of Arts. 

Q: Will there be food and beverage vendors?

A: Local food trucks, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages will be available on the upper Woodward Plaza. Menus include https://forkinnigeria.com/ and http://the-drunken-rooster.com/

Q: Restrooms?

A: Accessible outdoor restrooms and hand-washing stations will be available along Kirby Street and Farnsworth Street. 

Q: Which doors do we enter from for shows inside the DIA/Detroit Film Theatre:

Enter from John R entrance. 

Q: Will there be food and beverage vendors?  

A: YES! Food trucks and vendors outside at the DIA!  

Q: Will there be vendors and festival partners with fun merch and information?

A: Yes!

Q: What’s the point of this festival?

To provide free world-class music for everyone. We believe we can bring people together through music and dance. Find common ground there and begin conversations for unity. We are all stronger together. 

Q: Will the Detroit Institute of Arts be open?

A: The DIA will be open regular hours throughout the weekend. Admission is free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb and reserved online at dia.org. https://www.dia.org/visit 

Q: Are there other things to explore in Midtown Detroit when I attend Concert of Colors?

Q: What if I need some wheels to explore Midtown?
