Contemporary Native Folk
Check out some of their music!
Recording: Greyhound Bus Tour
Allison Radell is a Pohatan, and Joe Reilly a Cherokee who each have solo singer-songwriter careers, but when they come together they are Spirits Rising. This gentle music incorporates elements from a wide spectrum of popular sounds in merging with traditional Native American music. Pianist Radell and guitarist Reilly are driven to share inspirational and uplifting music from the heart with their audiences. Both are members of the Earthwork Music collective, a community of musicians who believe in the intrinsic and historical power of music to raise both community and self awareness, and to encourage original music in the state of Michigan and beyond. Two of Reilly’s seven recordings are children’s albums – Children of the Earth, Let’s Go Outside – that connect with the young through a connection with nature. Nowhere else will you hear a rap song about the life cycle of a frog.
